He breaks down the song from the view of the poor in terms of racing to the top. Ends the track with a chant of “Don’t get caught up in no throne!” Do you see this as a dis to Kanye and Jay? Or just a check up to focus on what is important in life?

Houston, TX – Tony Neal, CEO of The Core DJs Worldwide, has confirmed that Core Retreat XIV will be in Miami May 6th- 9th, 2011 at the Marriott Hotel Biscayne Bay, presented by B Major Music Group. This installment of the internationally known conference will focus on record labels and entertainment companies owned by athletes, while maintaining its platform to introduce new talent and promote established talent to the largest active DJ pool in the world. Attendees can register and get information for the conference at www.coredjs.com

Always a high profile entertainment industry event, The Core Retreat is known for attracting the biggest names and brands. Previous participants include Diddy, Jive Records, Akon, BET, Bad Boy, Erykah Badu, Ciroc, Interscope Records, and J Records just to name a few. The initial response to this year’s theme has been outstanding, with confirmed participation from athlete label owners including Bryant McKinnie (Vikings), Carmelo Anthony (Knicks), Amare Stoudemire (Knicks), and Nick Barnette (Packers). “I’m approached all the time by my friends who play professional sports trying to gain a better understanding of the business side of music. This conference will serve to get them on the right track,” Neal explains.

Entering its 7th year, the Core DJs Worldwide is the premier coalition for DJs, with a membership of 500 of the country’s most influential DJs, as well as international DJ Talent. Some of its most well known members include actor Idris Elba, DJ Low Down Loretta Brown (aka Erykah Badu), and syndicated personality Big Tigger. The retreat seeks to provide knowledge and resources to labels and artists, while also introducing their music to the multitude of DJs, media, major label executives, brand reps, and thousands of patrons that attend each retreat. This retreat will also offer new features to enhance the experience for participants including the Core Press Room, where talent can be interviewed & present single to media covering the event.

Heartbreak Hotel? Been there, done that. Wrote the article and refuse to go back. There are so many components that go into making a REAL relationship work, it’s a wonder the entirety of us haven’t lost our ever loving minds in the midst of it all. Well….some of ya’ll have lost yours but I feel pretty confident in saying that I’ve never even come CLOSE to boiling a bunny or slashing a tire. **side eye**
Maybe that’s why I’m still single; I’m not crazy enough. Maybe I’m not invested enough, who knows? A little self-reflection never hurts. Relationships are complicated and dating definitely isn’t all roses and sweet treats after all. I’ll even make a little confession. The world of dating isn’t easy. Dating ME isn’t easy and dating for black women as a whole isn’t as easy as it is for black men. Why? Because we are a complicated species. We don’t know what we want even when we tell you that WE want it. **Exhales** There! I said it and it’s true. Does that mean we’re doing something wrong or expecting too much? Not necessarily. I mean, my name’s not Rozanda ‘Chilli’ Thomas and I don’t have a reality show but in a way, I DO have a list. All women do. Scratch that, all women SHOULD have them. Just call them standards and if you don’t have any, well, I see your kind out ALL the time.
Now, back to this list. He has to be taller than me and cute. Smart, ambitious, God fearing, employable **direct stare** respectful and loves his mama. What else? Hmmm…he needs a car, crib and a J-O-B. 8 to 5, 2 to 10, late night shift, doesn’t matter to me as long as you’re working or actively pursuing it. Even Jesus was a carpenter. Know that. Looking back at all of my experiences, I have to wonder though. Is that asking too much? Am I? Are you? I think not! Why shouldn’t we want those things in a man? If I could show you a man like that right NOW, would you take him? If he had all of the aforementioned characteristics, could you date him? Could you love him? If so, here’s the catch: What if he’s white???
Changes things, huh? Michael Jackson famously sung, “If you thinkin bout bein my baby, it don’t matter if you’re black or white.” What he should’ve added was ‘unless you’re a sistah,’ because for various reasons, a lot of black women turn their noses up at dating outside of their race; white men in particular. I can hear it now. The shock and the horror laced voices. “A white boy! Me?!? Nope, don’t think so.” Those words were repeated again and again as I asked and surveyed numerous friends. “It’s pink!” said one. I’ll let you guys figure out the ‘it’ being referred to here. “They’re corny,” said another. “No swag,” and finally, with all other reasoning depleted, “I just can’t,” said the last. Now if we’re going back to earlier self reflection, honestly, I don’t think I could either. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the crux of the problem.
Black men don’t seem to have these same issues. You see it just like I do. I mean, hell, it’s an epidemic! Black men are dating white women like black women have gone outta style. Let me say that again. Black men are dating white women like black WOMEN are going out of style! Sometimes, when I go out on the town I feel like a jherri curl. We’ll never be in again. And black men aren’t just sticking to white women either. Asians, Hispanics, Indian, it just doesn’t seem to matter. Black men will date, be in a relationship with and if he’s even remotely successful, wife up any and every color of the rainbow. And we’ll stand on the sidelines, noses turned up, our heads shaking but steadfastly sticking to our one: Black. Hell, are light skinned men even back in?!? If not, will they ever be AGAIN? That’s how bad it is. When we limit ourselves in this way, it’s hard to believe we’re not also limiting ourselves in love as well. Maybe it’s time we get off the sidelines and see what else is out there. Let’s try it mentally right now.
Imagine yourself happy, smiling extra hard, spirit lit from the inside out as you stroll. It’s a nice summer day, the birds are chirping and everybody’s out. Folks are staring, some admiringly, others not so much but you don’t mind. Haters don’t punch a time clock anyway, right? Let em hate. You smile up at your man and all is right with the world. Now….make him white cause M.J. said it don’t matter. **sighs** Damn. It still does? Okay, I concur but let’s take baby steps here. This article isn’t about changing anybody’s mind. It’s about opening yourself up to opening your MIND to the possibilities. Just think about it. Love like a Michael Jackson song. It might not be so bad.
